The Environment and Recreation Committee is a group of dedicated volunteers who work to preserve and enhance the quality of life through protection of the environment and promoting recreational activities for the Mount Vernon District. The community representatives of the E&R Committee provide a mixture of grass roots and independent technical evaluations of projects and issues that affect the Mount Vernon District.

Naturalist Guided Tour of Pohick Bay Marshes
When: Sunday morning August 3rd, 2008, 6am
Where: Meet at Pohick Bay Marina
What to bring/wear: hat, sunscreen, bug repellent (although not generally needed), beach sandals (best) or old sneakers (ok), snack
What not to bring: anything you don't want to get wet, i.e., your best binoculars or expensive camera
We are limited to the first 20 people to sign up.
Cost will be $20 per person, however if we fill all 20 slots there will be a discount lowering the price to about $15 per person.
The trip will be open to MVCCA members in good standing and their families.
The minimum age is 12, however if a young adult can demonstrate paddling prowess the tour guide will allow as young as 9 years old.

The tour will be 4+ hours long including a brief paddling instruction session at the beginning. If you have your own kayak bring it.
We will not be paddling the entire time as there will be stops along the way including a place to grab a snack.
With a start time of 6am sharp, we have virtually been guaranteed of seeing "the whole gamut", so be prepared for an experience rarely seen so close to DC!
