COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Committee meetings, generally on the first Tuesday evening of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital (Engh Room), are open to the public and announced in MVCCA RECORD calendar. Each meeting focuses on an area of community need or concern. We invite, as guest resources, local nonprofit and county service providers and managers able to report on and respond to the issue. The range of concerns is very broad - hospital and healthcare planning, mental health treatment services, temporary emergency assistance for basic needs, early childcare and senior programs, and much more. GOALS
The Health and Human Services Committee conducts an ongoing review of needs and available resources in Fairfax County, with emphasis on the Mount Vernon District, the Route One Corridor, and the southeastern area of Human Services Region 1. We maintain our concern for the availability, quality, and access (including affordability) of effective programs and services for all residents of our community. GUIDING PRINCIPLES The MVCCA recognizes that the capacity to deliver effective health and human services is essential to building and sustaining a healthy community and that these programs are also among our best means to reduce or control the growth of major public costs (for example, for hospitalization, incarceration, and chronic dependency). Further, the MVCCA recommends crisis prevention and early intervention programs, in particular, as our most cost-effective strategies, with great benefits to our community. A statement of needs, resources, and guiding principles for Health and Human Services Planning appears in the MVCCA RECORD, annually in March, together with recommendations for the County’s Budget Plan for the next fiscal year, for the consideration and approval of the MVCCA’s General Council. |

FINDING SERVICES
The outstanding service network of our area is characterized by partnerships of many kinds between numerous county agencies and private nonprofit organizations, with important voluntary contributions from our community to both. In the effort to link people in need with the most appropriate available services, Fairfax County’s Department of Human Services Systems Management maintains a multi-lingual team of social service professionals in Coordinated Services Planning, reached through a single telephone number: 703-222-0880 (press 1 for English, prensa número dos para español). |
